This release by the King of Pop has only one real flaw... it was released in 1979. Nevertheless, there are some great songs on here, so please listen, enjoy, and vote, and perhaps it will make it into the playlist.
Respectfully Submitted,

Um, well, the 1979 precedent has already been set. Gotta have Rock With You. |

Tough decision for this 1979 album. Even though it was released in August it still has too much of a 70s sound to add here. |

I can see Jeric's point about the album overall, but there are one or two songs I can see adding because of how popular they were into the 80's. _________________ Winter |

I can see not adding the whole album, but the singles from the album:
Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough
Rock With You
She's Out Of My Life
and the title track, Off The Wall were popular into the 80's (as Winter said). So, I'd vote to add those, but leave off the others. _________________ "The question isn't 'What are we going to do today?'-- It's 'What *aren't* we going to do today?'" |

I voted yes, because there's some on here I would enjoy seeing added. However, if I could thumbs-up just individual songs, it would be these 3:
2. Rock With You (Single Version)
3. Workin' Day And Night
5. Off The Wall
These are the ones I think of as "vintage 80s MJ" in with Thriller & whatnot. I would kinda like to include DSTYGE as well, but... it definitely has that disco tinge that screams 70s to me. (I admit RWY has a little of that as well but not quite so bad.) The rest I would probably vote down. They sound more 70s to me than 80s.
Literal release year is just a technicality to me. There's plenty of music released 80-82 that is still 70s-sound "hangover" ... like, this week I have heard Paul Davis & the Spinners on here, and while they may technically qualify as 80s releases, IMO they don't flow well with Cyndi Lauper, Duran, Van Halen & the usual artists who spring to mind when one thinks "80s music." And at the other end of the decade, there's plenty of hair metal, rap, Hi-NRG dance and such that continue an 80s "sound" well into 90-92. (Personally my mental "axe-chop" point for splitting 80s/90s is grunge.) New music styles don't conveniently stop & start at the changing of some specific calendar date that we humans arbitrarily set. |

I have to agree with JERIC on this - when I think of these songs, I still associate it with the 70's. _________________ Dear Mr. Vernon, ... You see us as you want to see us... the album I associate with the 70s , however the song 'She's Out of My Life' I think of 1980. as the single was released April 19, 1980
if we could just get that taste of this album.
in fact , with 'Thrillers' mega success , radio returned to play much of the 'Off The Wall' at that time.
if we could just get that taste of this album. |
