Vanessa Paradis is maybe more known in the U.S. because of her relationship with Johnnie Depp, but the singer/actress got her big breakthrough with this, her first album.
Joe Le Taxi was a gigantic hit throughout Europe - it was at #1 in the singles charts for 11 weeks straight in her native France (and in Belgium for 13 weeks). That summer it was "inescapable". It was even released in the U.K. (not typical for French artists) and reached #3 there in 1988. The album is still one of the top selling albums of all time in France.
She sounds young in the song and this is because she was only 14 at the time that the song was recorded. |
