The Pointer Sisters, Eurythmics, Whitney Houston (...) - Very Special Christmas, A
|
A favorite Christmas album |
|
I really love this album, except for two songs - Christmas in Hollis (Run DMC), and Santa Baby (Madonna).
I'm not a huge fan of rap to begin with, but this one totally hits me the wrong way.
There are two songs of Madonna's in her entire repertoire that I actually hate:
1. Santa Baby - her voice in this song is like nails on a chalkboard to me. Betty Boop she is NOT!
2. American Pie - my local pop/top 40 station played it for two days before they pulled it because they got everything from people swearing they'd never listen to the station again, to actual bomb and death threats. It was awesome and terrifying all at once lol.

Duran Duran - Duran Duran

Missing songs :( |

I love this album so much, but it'd be awesome if "(Waiting for The) Night Boat" and "Tel Aviv" were on here too! Night Boat is one of my favs!

Duran Duran - Arena

Where's the beef??? |

Where's the rest of the album? This is such an awesome live album, it should be here!!

Yes - Big Generator
|
YES.....wore this tape out too |
|
A great album....had to get it on CD after the tape wore out. The string quartet opening of Love Will Find A Way is an incredible example of this groups ability to detail. Always the distinct sound of Jon Anderson's vocals are legendary and can also be heard on the Mr.Cairo track when he guest stared on Vangelis albums.(which seems to be missing on this station at this time....but I'm sure that will be fixed soon? ;)

Platinum Blonde - Standing In The Dark
|
Platinum Blonde....the most under rated group of the eighties |
|
A Toronto band headed by front man Mark Holmes...the band still tours today but their drummer, Chris suffers from tennitus (ringing in the ears- wear those ear plugs to those concerts boys and girls) and now Dan Todd is their drummer and he certainly brings a lot of positive energy to the stage with the rest of the band. Sergio is still playing the riffs and looks pretty much the same. Kenny Mclean, a member who joined the band for their 2nd and 3rd album died in 2008 of a heart attack.
We could use some more tracks off this album around here for sure.

New Order - Substance
|
Bizarre.....that this album is missing Bizarre Love Triangle |
|
Missing from this collection.....at the time of writing this......is the Shep Pettibone-extended seven-minute version of bizarre love triangle that only appears on this two CD collection. Although there are two albums on 1980's FM that can access Bizarre Love Triangle, both are the same versions. In my opinion, the version that appears on this album is, although 7 minutes, is the best version of the song......but that's just MY opinion. Otherwise, this album is a total keeper.

Honeydrippers - Honeydrippers, Vol. 1, The
|
Retro product of Robert Plant. |
|
Great, short album of 50's remakes with musicians like Jeff Beck, Jimmy Page (yep Roberts buddy) and Paul Shaffer (from Dave Letterman's talk shows) Unfortunately, there was never a Volume 2 and there is only one track available here right now....but time will tell if we will have access to other tracks like "Rockin at Midnight"

The Sisters Of Mercy - Floodland
|
Super Sounds of the Sisters. |
|
Fantasic Album from a group self described as
"....... a rock'n'roll band. And a pop band. And an industrial groove machine.
We are intellectual love gods."
Another song not on our playlists....(yet???).....is the legendary remake of the "temple of love" with Israeli operatic legend Ofra Haza
This group had quite a few great songs and wore A LOT of leather....and had a very unique "power-hause" sound. They have been missed.
